As from its name the church is suspended over the old Roman
gates of Babylon
Fortress. The church was destroyed in the 9th century and
rebuilt again in the 10th century.
The church was renovated afterwards, and several icons and decorations
were added. Despite being a monument, the church is still in
use and masses are frequently held.
