To some distance south of the Unas pyramid causeway
lies a 5th century Christian monastery. This monastery was destroyed
in the 10th century by the Arab invaders.
It remained unexcavated till its discovery in early 20th century.
The Egyptian government took all its valuables and they are
now on display in the Coptic
museum. What remained from the early construction of the
monastery is nothing but almost-buried ruins.
