It is a remarkable octagonal fortress-like building. Inside,
soldiers are buried in mass with symbolic representation of
their regiments, in alcoves, each contain 3 stone graves.
And in the center, an 11.5 meter-high (37.7 ft high) obelisk
is set to commemorate the Unknown Soldier.
Panels hanged over the memorial have engraved names of approximately
4,200 German soldiers
To the right side is a small chapel for honoring the dead.
The building is on a hill overlooking the sea.
The memorial is designed by Robert Tischler, principal architect
of the German War Graves Commission.
