place at Memphis
and the decree was written on a stone in 3 languages, the hieroglyphics ,
the demotic
and the Greek.
This stone was later known as Rosetta stone. It allowed modern scholars
to know all about the hieroglyphics and deciphering its letters
whose secret remained unknown for long periods.
Ptolemy married Cleopatra I, the daughter
of the Seleucid King Antiochus III. It was a political marriage that
granted peace between Egypt and Syria for some time.
